Teeth Whitening
at Dentalcare TrowbridgeA smile makeover with Teeth Whitening
Over time, teeth can get stained and discoloured. Often this is caused by the types of food and drink that we consume including tea, coffee, red wine and spicy food. Other reasons for heavy staining can be due to an illness or trauma to your teeth.
White teeth look beautiful and convey a sense of health and happiness to everyone around you. It’s no wonder that teeth whitening has become extremely popular with so many of our patients.
If you want brighter, whiter teeth, we always recommend that you opt for a teeth whitening treatment which is overseen by a professional dentist. Products sold online or over the counter are risky to the health of your teeth and your general health.
Teeth whitening in Trowbridge
At Dentalcare Trowbridge we can whiten your teeth in two ways:
Teeth whitening at the surgery
In just one appointment at our dental surgery, a special gel will be applied to your teeth. This begins to remove the stains by breaking down the dentin deposits and compounds which cause them. A lamp is then placed over your teeth which helps to speed up the process. Your teeth will be whitened in about an hours’ time after which you will leave the surgery with a stunning new smile.
Teeth whitening in your home
Alternatively, we make and fit you with a bespoke whitening tray which you wear for a certain amount of time at home or overnight when it is most convenient to you. We offer two brands for this treatment:
White Dental Beauty Teeth Whitening
White Dental Beauty Teeth Whitening is a safe, professional system used with custom-made trays and dentist-prescribed gel. You could choose a formula that suits your lifestyle. 6% Hydrogen Peroxide for fast results, wear your trays for just 1–2 hours during the day. Carbamide Peroxide (10% or 16%) is a gentler option, worn overnight – perfect for sensitive teeth.
With added NovaMin® to help reduce sensitivity and strengthen enamel, you’ll get a brighter, healthier smile from the comfort of home.
Boutique teeth whitening
You fill your custom-made trays with a prescribed amount of whitening gel and then wear your trays for the time specified by your dentist. Boutique by Day contains a higher concentration of bleaching gel, so you only need to wear them for 1 or 2 hours as prescribed by your dentist and this works well if you want fast results. Boutique by Night contains carbamide and is a far gentler process. You wear your trays over-night and this more gradual approach is suitable if you have sensitive teeth or if you would prefer not to wear your trays during the day.
Poladay and Polanight teeth whitening
Just like Boutique whitening, Pola teeth whitening involves you wearing a custom-made tray over the top of your teeth which contains a whitening gel. Poladay uses hydrogen peroxide which works quickly and can be worn for as little as 30 minutes in the day. Polanight uses carbamide peroxide which is a slower acting chemical that provides a gentler whitening treatment whilst you sleep. Both forms of Pola whitening treatments contain fluoride to protect against sensitivity and both are safe and offer the flexibility to whiten your teeth in your own time. With Pola teeth whitening, you get to choose the shade of white for your treatment.

Introducing ICON White Spot Removal
White spots form when minerals are lost from enamel, leaving tiny pores where air gets trapped — that’s what makes them look white. ICON smooths and fills those spots, restoring your tooth’s colour.
Traditional treatments for white spots, such as veneers or crowns, can be invasive, costly, and time-consuming. ICON Resin Infiltration offers a minimally invasive, more comfortable, and highly effective alternative — with impressive aesthetic results.
What can cause white spots on teeth?
- Fluorosis– Overexposure to fluoride during childhood when the teeth are developing.
- Molar Incisor Hypomineralisation (MIH): a qualitative defect causing enamel to be discoloured, sensitive, and prone to breakdown.
- Enamel Hypoplasia– a a quantitative defect where the enamel layer is reduced in thickness, leading to pits, grooves, or missing enamel.
- Acidic or Sugary Diet- Frequent exposure to acidic or sugary foods and drinks can weaken enamel.
- Dry Mouth (Xerostomia)- Lack of saliva reduces the mouth’s ability to remineralise the enamel.
- Braces– Plaque accumulation around brackets can lead to decalcified areas.
- Poor Oral Hygiene– Especially during orthodontic treatment, it increases the risk of demineralization.
- Early Tooth Decay (Caries)- White spots can be the first visible sign of a cavity starting to form.
- Medication Side Effects- Antibiotics such as tetracycline taken during childhood.
- Health conditions such as celiac disease

How much does it cost?

Frequently asked questions about Teeth Whitening
How often can you whiten your teeth?
Every person is different but on average, if you have your teeth whitened at the surgery, this should last you for about a year. The take home whitening treatments will last for months and you may want to consider getting another course of treatment after about 6 months.
Does teeth whitening harm the enamel? Is teeth whitening safe?
Teeth whitening does not harm the enamel of the tooth. Teeth whitening is a safe procedure as long as your dentist is involved in the process. Teeth and gums can be permanently damaged if they are not treated with care so we would always advise you not to buy any over the counter products. You should always follow your dentist’s advice about how long you should wear your trays for and how much gel you should fill them with.
Does teeth whitening hurt?
Not normally, but it can be different for each patient. You may notice some discomfort if you have sensitive teeth but this will ease once you have taken your trays out. Your dentist will assess your teeth before beginning your teeth whitening treatment and will check the condition of your teeth and whether they are sensitive.
